Diary of an Expert League: Mayday!
Marc Griffis, Fantasy Baseball Staff Writer
May 10, 2012 |
 |
 |
Mayday! As the month of May begins, my team is signaling "mayday" as the last two weeks have been far from turbulent. Injuries and several lackluster starts to key players have resulted in team Fantasy Sharks falling down the ranks in the Fantasy Sports Trade Association Experts League.
We are still early in the season so keep battling. Take a dive with me as we review several key pickups and starting lineup decisions in hopes of recovery!

Diary of an Expert League: “Rolling In the Deep”
Marc Griffis, Fantasy Baseball Staff Writer
Apr 18, 2012 |

 |
Is your first- or second-round pick off to a slow start? Be patient and don’t be alarmed as several late-round picks are off to torrid starts. Roster depth is imperative as injuries and slumps can seem overwhelming.
Take a dive with me as I review my week in the Experts’ league and focus on several key players on my team, which you may also have or be targeting in a trade.

Ozzie owns up
Dave Ricci, Fantasy Baseball Staff Writer
Apr 15, 2012 |
 |
 |
| While you certainly can't agree with what he said, you have to give credit to Ozzie Guillen for at least admitting the error of his comments. Miami Marlins skipper Ozzie Guillen, who is no stranger to odd rants over the years, finally went too far when he was quoted to say,"I love Fidel Castro" during an interview with Time Magazine that came out in early April. |

Digging Deep: Future Metropolitan Arms
Dave Ricci, Fantasy Baseball Staff Writer
Apr 11, 2012 |

 |
| The New York Mets are trying to right the ship in Buffalo. And it’ll all start on the hill. Two of the Mets’ top pitching prospects will start the season in Buffalo and, if all goes right, fans in Buffalo may be able to see the top four arms in the Mets system this summer. |

Patience
Mark Chamberlin, Fantasy Baseball Staff Writer
Apr 10, 2012 |
 |
 |
| You probably watched more baseball this past weekend then you will watch in some months later on this summer, so, not surprisingly, when you’re looking at that 10.80 earned run average and one home run, you feel the need to shake things up. I’m here to tell you not to. If this weekend happened on Aug. 10, would you be scrambling around the waiver wire like you are right now? Of course not. There are some things to take away from Week 1, but blowing up your team isn’t one of them. |

Finishing it Off: The Late Rounds
Mark Chamberlin, Fantasy Baseball Staff Writer

set yourself up to dominate the latter portions of the draft, just
follow the rules inside and you’ll set yourself up for a title run. |

Rebound....or Regress?
Marc Griffis, Fantasy Baseball Staff Writer
Mar 27, 2012 |
 |
 |
The first round of players off the draft board several years ago looked very different than this season. Several big names suffered down seasons last year or even for a couple years. However, these players also have proven track records of success and will provide huge value if they bounce back.
Take a dive with me as we review several players that may rebound in 2012, or may continue to regress.

Sharks Discuss the Under Rated: Aaron Hill
Mark Chamberlin, Scott Martin, and Steve Banas, Fantasy Baseball Staff Writer
Mar 20, 2012 |
 |
 |
| Fantasy owners look at him from a glass half empty
perspective and say "Hill's peaked already and he'll never hit anything close to 36 HR's
again like he did in 2009". We
couldn't agree more except that fantasy owners are downgrading him far too much
in their evaluation. |

Sharks Discuss the Overrated: Melky Cabrera
Mark Chamberlin, Scott Martin, and Steve Banas, Fantasy Baseball Staff Writer
Mar 19, 2012 |
 |
 |
|
Unless
you’re in a deep league, Melky Cabrera probably isn’t on your radar screen as
he projects as a third or fourth outfielder. While it seems like he’s been
around forever, he’s actually just 27 and is coming off a career year with the Kansas
City Royals, posting a .305 average, 18 home runs, 102 runs scored, 87 runs
batted in, 27 stolen based. Step back … those are some impressive numbers! |

Sharks Discuss the Overrated: Adrian Beltre
Mark Chamberlin, Scott Martin, and Steve Banas, Fantasy Baseball Staff Writer
Mar 18, 2012 |
 |
 |
| Adrian Beltre used to be an easy project to examine. Is he in a contract year? Yes? Buy, buy, buy! He’s not? OK, you can have him. However, after two consecutive years of solid production, the tides have turned on how people feel about Beltre. We’re here to remind you not to forget the past. |

Sharks Discuss the Overrated: Mike Napoli
Mark Chamberlin, Scott Martin, and Steve Banas, Fantasy Baseball Staff Writer
Mar 15, 2012 |
 |
 |
| Why on Earth do we have this guy so low? He hit .320 with 30 home runs and 75 runs batted in last year and is slated for more designated hitter at-bats this year than at-bats as a catcher … we must be nuts! We say, if you think Dan Uggla is a bargain in Round 5, then Mike Napoli is your guy at catcher because he’s going off the board late in Round 4. |

Rounds 2-4: The Foundation
Mark Chamberlin, Fantasy Baseball Staff Writer
Mar 14, 2012 |
 |
 |
| In Part 2 of this series, we’re going to continue to
build the foundation of your team. You’ve got a great start with a corner
infielder in Round 1, but the next 2-3 rounds are equally as important in
laying the ground work for your championship-caliber team. Since I didn’t
disclose in Part 1, this series is written from the perspective of a daily
transaction 12-team mixed league with 14 bats and nine arms in the starting
lineup with five bench spots. |

Three Up Three Down-Position Players
Keith Jordan, Fantasy Baseball Staff Writer
Mar 13, 2012 |
 |
 |
|
Winning
fantasy baseball teams are built by cleverly drafting players on the cusp of a
breakout season while managing to not overpay for players who will not deliver
a repeat of a career season. Here is a look at position players who might be
primed for a breakout campaign and others that I suggest you draft cautiously. |

Winning Roto Strategy

As we flip the calendar to March, baseball teams are reporting to spring training. That can only mean that fantasy baseball drafts are just around the corner. If you are a fantasy baseball traditionalist like me and enjoy playing in rotisserie scoring leagues, you have to keep reading to find out about a winning strategy that will help you draft a well-balanced, winning team. |

Round #1: The Easy Part
Mark Chamberlin, Fantasy Baseball Staff Writer
Mar 11, 2012 |
 |
 |
| Matt Kemp and Troy Tulowitzki are very attractive and tempting names at the top of the draft. Kemp bordered on a 40/40 season on a putrid Dodgers team and Tulowitzki will probably be the #1 rated shortstop for the next half decade. However, they are not the keys to success for this season. |

Sharks Discuss the Overrated: Ian Kennedy
Mark Chamberlin, Scott Martin, and Steve Banas, Fantasy Baseball Staff Writer
Mar 5, 2012 |
 |
 |
| We like Ian Kennedy (not personally because we’ve never met him), but drafting him late last season, Kennedy put up Cy Young type numbers, winning 21 games, with nearly 200 strikeouts, a sub 3.00 earned run average and a sporty 1.09 walks plus hits per inning pitched (WHIP). So what to expect for 2012? |
