Daily 10 - August 2

| More

#10 - Ernesto Frieri is losing it and Scott Downs is now on the DL. In most leagues it's too early, although if you have the DL room he's a worthy flier, but keep tabs on Jordan Walden.  Frieri is battling through a huge 'tip pitches' issue right now and Downs obviously wasn't right, causing him to go on the DL.

#9 - Nelson Cruz is en fuego.  Yesterday's 500' moon shot now gives him four home runs in the last seven games, he draws a C.J. Wilson Thursday (career .287/..354/.515 vs. lefties) so don't be surprised if he sprinkles the boxscore again.

#8 - Hope you, like me, didn't let last weeks mess cause you to bench Jonathan Niese.  He cut through the Giants lineup Thursday.  He's had a couple of inexplicable blips this season, but for the most part he has been a very strong asset.

#7 - Need a streamer for Thursday?  Try Jon Lester and Mike Minor.  Minor first though.  Lester has a favorable matchup, is coming off a decent performance in Yankee Stadium, and the Red Sox have been hot lately but he's still been nothing short of a mess for most of the last month.  Minor has the new AAAA Marlins and has been smoking for the last 6 weeks.  Quality stretch run option.

#6 - David Murphy had a playoff caliber AB in Texas' comeback win vs. Frieri.  He gets hot in bunches and is in the midst of a 9/14 4 R 4 RBI 1 SB stretch over the last 4 games.  He'll be a pinch hitter against C.J. Wilson Thursday, but he gets two weak righties this weekend so stream away!

#5 - Speaking of en fuego, hello Mr. Pujols, where did you come from?  4 long balls in the last two days.  Have you forgotten about that shockjingly slow start too?  I have.

#4 - The picking's getting slim on waivers for CI's, but if you're digging deep look for Chris Johnson and Brett Wallace, both beneficiaries of a deadline trade.  Wallace has post hype sleeper written all over him as he scuffled in a long look in 2011, but has showed signs of correction this year and smacked two home runs Wednesday night.  Chris Johnson is a change of scenery beneficiary - he's already smacked two home runs in three games as a Diamondback as he's off to a 6/11 start.

#3 - Words can't describe how much of a mess the Indians are right now.  Outside of that performance vs. Justin Verlander last week they have been sleep walking since the All Star break.  Positive night from Wednesday night's game, Greg Holland had a clean save!  Okay, that does nothing for Cleveland, but it's a positive!

#2 - More en fuego, this in the form of Rickie Weeks.  it's too little too late for the Brewers, but after a .272/.380/.533 July, Weeks is back.  He's carrying thos over to August as well as he went yard Wednesday night.  If the Weeks owner is asleep at the wheel, a buy window may still be there.

#1 - Lastly, need a streamer on today's short schedule?  Try Seth Smith.  The righty masher draws the gopher prone Henderson Alvarez.  Play ball!
