Daily 10 - August 31

| More

#10 - I'm having flashbacks to last week, my Thursday short scheduler streamer Jarrod Parker put up 5 IP 5 ER 3 K 11 base runners and picked up the garbage win.  Jake Westbrook last week?  5 IP 5 ER 1 K 9 base runners and picked up the garbage win.  Eery.

#9 - Yunel Escobar, you are on fire.  Six hits in two days and hits in eight straight.  This was the two days a year in which it was interesting to own Yunel Escobar.

#8 - Good numbers for the week, let alone one day from Jonathan Lucroy.  Three hits, a home run, and 7 RBI.  He was slow to return off the DL in July, but has really picked it up over the last few weeks.

#7 - Welcome back to the daily write up, Jason Kipnis.  It's been a while!  After an ice cold July and an injury early August I was beginning to think his season may be lost but as it turns out he just needed the rest.  It's a far cry from his scorching hot May but he's back to being a reliable starter again after a decent two weeks.

#6 - Rickie Weeks' season line is ugly, but his second half stats have been much more in line with expectations.  Low batting average, a lot of walks, good counting stats, and a 20/10 season line.  Yesterday's 5-5 line sure helped.

#5 - A wrist issue slowed Adam Jones midseason and perhaps he is finally getting out of the funk.  The two home runs in the last three days were his first since July.

#4 - Coco Crisp and Josh Reddick led the way to an offensive onslught by the A's as they swept the Indians.  Reddick ended the series 9/19 with 2 home runs and Crisp was 4/14 with a bomb and a swiped bag.  They draw the bad end of the Red Sox rotation this weekend (no Lester or Buchholz), enjoy!

#3 - Justin Masterson is maddening.  His outings are either atrocious or beautiful, there is no middle ground.  As the above blurb indicated, yesterday was ugly.  He was a target of mine preseason and I'm glad I missed on him as often as I did.

#2 - Starlin Castro fell into a rather long funk in-season, his batting average dropped from .331 May 15 all the way to a season low .272 August 7 with just 9 home runs and 4 stolen bases over the three month stretch but he has picked up as of late collecting hits in six straight and he's running more.  Power outage still in effect though, maybe the losing got to him.

#1 - Remember when Manny Machado took the fantasy community by storm a few weeks ago?  I screamed fluke and look at what he's done since - .180 3 R 0 HR 3 RBI 1 SB.  He's a prized prospect, but he's just not ready for the show.  Good story for that one weekend though.
