#10 - Looking for a starting pitcher to stream? Try J.A. Happ. He has been solid vs. lefties (.281/.325/.418 with only 2 HR's and 4 BB's). His opponent Sunday, Cleveland, is loaded with lefties and will have to bat a pitcher. Mix in more than a strikeout per inning and you have a great gamble.
#9 - Clayton Richard is another quality gamble this weekend. The Mariners are woeful vs. lefties (.242/.292/.366), Richard is lethal vs. lefties (.193/.253/.276 1 HR 17:5 K:BB), and he's pitching in Petco. This seems like almost too good of a matchup.
#8 - Will Venable has a road trip starting Monday, on his last three road trips he went 7/13 2 R 2 RBI 1 SB, 10/35 5 R 2 HR 6 RBI 1 SB, and 8/30 2 R 1 HR 6 RBI for a combined .320 9 R 3 HR 14 RBI 2 SB in 22 games (18 games if you're in a daily league and bench him vs, lefties). Pick him up.
#7 - Will Middlebrooks has now hit an RBI in 5 straight games. Meanwhile, Kevin Youkilis has watched his average plummet from .253 to .225 during June with 0 HR and 1 RBI. Either trade him and eat the salary or bench Youk already. Regardless, add Middlebrooks.
#6 - Quintin Berry has been in the lineup three consecutive games and has hit in the #2 hole each time. On a team that has been void of a #2 hitter since Placido Polanco departed it's looking more and more like Jim Leyland will keep Berry in the lineup, even after Andy Dirks returns. If you're in need of steals and someone dropped him, go get him.
#5 - While the Mariners bullpen has been a bit of a mess if you started all of Brandon League, Tom Wilhelmsen, Charlie Furbush, and Stephen Pryor this year you would have the following numbers - 99 2/3 IP 3.03 ERA 1.13 WHIP 104 K 7 W 14 SV. Pretty good numbers from a messy situation. Food for thought for deeper league owners, specifically those with Jonathan Broxton rostered. There's some gold to be mined on waivers in the Royals bullpen.
#4 - Everth Cabrera just keeps on running, he's a must start regardless until he cools off but those in daily leagues with an extra middle infielder should note his splits vs. lefties - while the sampling is tiny a .179/233/.321 (72% GB%) line is consistent with his career. Feel free to bench him vs. lefties if you have options.
#3 - Looks like Aramis Ramirez finally hit his hot streak, .300 5 R 4 HR 10 RBI in the last week. This is not unusual for Ramirez as he sat on 3 HR's about this same time last year when he exploded for 14 HR's between June 25 and July 26. The buy low window is now closed and his owner's, enjoy the ride.
#2 - Speaking of mid-summer hot streaks, Dan Uggla started his on July 5 last year when he boosted his average .054 points and clubbed 15 home runs. Currently he has only knocked five out of the park since May 11 and watched his average drop from .282 all the way to .248. It may not work, but a buy low feeler is in order.
#1 - Last but not least, Cliff Lee is starting game #14 tonight against the Tampa Bay Rays and is still without a win. With James Shields as his opponent unfortunately it looks like his streak may continue. Bring your A game, Cliff!
