#10 - Colorado's offense away from Coors is just offensive, 7 runs in 4 games is not just a product of good Atlanta pitching.
#9 - I picked up Marco Estrada with an extra roster spot because it looks like he has an outing with the Astros later this month, just trying to stay ahead of the curve. Yesterday he was hit up by the Marlins 1, 2, and 5 hitters but those were Bryan Petersen, Donovan Solano, and Greg Dobbs. Who?! Starting to re-think tossing him out there vs. the Astros now.
#8 - Mark Reynolds sure is making up for his anemic start to the year, 2 more home runs Thursday night. If there's a player that can mash out 15 home runs in a month it's Reynolds. Do it, Mark!
#7 - The Cubs are smiling ear to ear with their trade for Anthony Rizzo, 3 hits with a home run on Thursday brings him to 31/12/33/2/.298 in just 245 AB's. Sophomore slumps remain a potential hazard, but 30+ home runs may be on tap as early as next year.
#6 - Jordan Zimmermann recovered nicely from a rare bad outing last week, he disected the Cubs lineup to the tune of 9 K's and just 1 BB over 7 IP's in the route. His K's have been trending up as the season goes on, he could be one of those pitchers just outside the top 20 that blows up and becomes an ace at a bargain price next year.
#5 - Adrian Beltre's torrid stretch is going a bit unnoticed thanks in large part to Mr. Reynolds. His home run Thursday gives him 8 in the last two weeks. I'm way late to the party, but that whole contract year phenom label he's carried? I think it can be put to bed.
#4 - Adam LaRoche is no Mark Reynolds, but can't fault him for trying! His 6 home runs in the last week have brought him on the brink of a 30 home run season. Unlike Beltre, I just can't buy into LaRoche over the long haul so enjoy the ride but let someone else pay the premium price next year.
#3 - Craig Kimbrel is making a strong case for taking a stud closer early, given all the issues throughout the rest of the league his 94 K's (to just 13 BB's) over 51 1/3 IP's carry enormous value. Him and Aroldis Chapman will make me reconsider my stance on not drafting any closer before round 10. #2 - Need a starter for this weekend? Try Wade Miley, his ownership % is dropping and I found him on my league's wire. I guess people got bored with him because he has maintained his pace throughout the year. He's in Petco this weekend, so stream away!
#1 - Football is taking front and center this weekend to our beloved game, and I am a broken record at this point, but this is your opportunity to gain points on others. Stay on the ball while your competition is glued to the pigskin and you'll find some cheap early September points, maybe enough to propel you to victory by the time your competition realizes there's just 10 days left in the season. |
