With the 2012 Summer Olympics now in full swing, we now
have another option to give us a break from our favorite summer pastime, Major League
Baseball. Although I will catch some Olympic action, my focus continues to be
climbing the ranks of the Fantasy Sports Trade Association Experts League. Throughout
the week, the Sharks team has bounced between third, fourth and fifth place. Pitching
continues to be the primary weakness as the bats maintain their dominance. Take
a dive with me as review several key highlight and lowlight performances over
the last week.
Russell Martin - For every productive week from Martin, the veteran
catcher suffers through spells of inconsistency. With two home runs and a .315
average this week, see if Martin can finally scale the Mendoza line and rebound
from his poor first half.
Rickie Weeks - Finally! Weeks is showing life as he hit two home runs,
.400 average and a steal over the last week. Don’t expect a monster rebound
from the first half, but Weeks is demonstrating his power and speed skills, and
finally removed from his funk.
Jim Johnson - The veteran reliever has been one of the biggest surprises
in the fantasy baseball world this season. He has proven to be one of the most
reliable closers this year with 31 saves. However, Johnson endured a rough
patch this week in which he allowed five earned runs in a 1/3 of an inning and
also blew his third save of the year in another outing. Although his earned run
average did jump this week, Johnson was able to lock down a save in Monday’s battle
against the New York Yankees. Expect consistency with a few more bumps on the
road.
Roy Halladay - The Philadelphia ace has been as much of a disappointment as
Tim Lincecum this season, but certainly has had a season to forget. Since
returning from injury, he has one quality start in three attempts. Whether he
is still not fully healthy or simply rusty, be careful with Halladay. Continue
to start him but do not expect his traditional dominance.
