The Sharks can swing lumber. After drafting the Fantasy Sharks team at the Fantasy Sport Trade Association’s Experts League in Las Vegas, I was confident our team was relatively balanced in batting average, power, and speed. As long as Jose Bautista did not fade, he would likely lead the team in homeruns with help from Mark Trumbo, Nelson Cruz and a few late round hopefuls like Alfonso Soriano and Josh Willingham. Little did I know that I would lead the league in homeruns and RBIs by significant margins. With that being said, the speed production has been disappointing. I am currently trenched in sixth place just a handful of points behind fifth and still very much in contention. Once again, my offense continued to shine, while pitching suffered a few hiccups. Check out several highlights and lowlights from this last week. Jerome Williams- After showing more consistency and improving his K per nine numbers, I decided to start Jerome Williams in lieu of his two stark week. Unfortunately, Williams lasted only 3 1/3 innings in his first start after reporting shortness of breath and even visited the hospital. So much for the two start week after Williams’ early exit! If Williams is on your team, monitor this situation closely to ensure he will remain in the rotation in spite of the promotion of Garrett Richards and return of Jered Weaver. Cody Ross- Sometimes it takes players a few games to knock off the rust after returning from an injury. Not so much for Cody Ross, as the BoSox outfielder went yard three times while tallying 10 RBIs. With Crawford and Ellsbury returning soon, keep an eye on this situation to see if Ross remains starting or whether he is dangled as trade bait. Lance Lynn- Is the fairy tale over? I am hoping not as Lance Lynn has been one of my most consistent arms and best waiver adds this season. Through May, Lynn had only one non-quality start. This June, three of his five starts have not been quality. With a favorable matchup against Pittsburgh this week, let’s see which Lynn shows up. If he struggles again, he may be worth sitting next week. Derek Jeter- The Yankee captain has been nothing short of awesome this year. However, June gloom hit the veteran as his average has hung around .230 for this month with 16 strikeouts. Jeter should rebound from this depression and replicate the power and speed combo that owners treasured during the first two months of the season. Good luck this week! |
