Position Players to Start Desmond Jennings hasn’t performed up to expectations this season, but he has been performing better of late. With the matchups he draws this week he should again have a productive week. Jennings has a .400 or better average against four of the starters to go along with five home runs.
Evan Longoria has spent most of the season on the disabled list with a hamstring injury, but finally returned to the field earlier this month. A re-injury or the Rays wanting to ease him back in to regular playing time are a concern, but if you are looking for a potential splash, Longoria is the high risk-high reward play you should consider. In his career Longoria has crushed four of the starters he will face and will look to get back in his groove this week.
Torii Hunter owns very impressive career numbers when facing the starters that he and the Angels will see this week. Hunter has been reliable but unspectacular on the season. Lately Hunter has been a nice source of production with a .300 average over the last two weeks. Make sure to have Hunter plugged in to your lineup this week.
Position Players to Avoid Josh Reddick has cooled off in the second half. Reddick’s primary weapon has been in his power production, but in August he has experienced a power outage. Given the fall off and tough set of matchups that he faces this week, you would be well served to start someone else.
Shin Soo-Choo draws matchups with five starting pitchers that he has had a tough time with in his career. Choo has struggled to reach base lately and he will likely continue to have a tough time again this week. Find a better option for your team.
If you were fortunate enough to latch on to Colby Rasmus during his hot streak, hopefully you have benched or dropped him as he has plunged back to reality. No player has seen such a drastic change of fortune over the last couple of months. To make matters even worse the starting pitchers that Rasmus is schedueled to face this week have gotten the best of him. Unless Rasmus catches fire again, you should look elsewhere this week and beyond.
Two Start Pitchers Two favorable matchups: Chris Sale Yovani Gallardo Stephen Strasburg.
Split decision: A.J. Burnett Wade Miley
Double trouble: Chris Capuano Jake Westbrook
One Start Wonders Eventhough these guys get only one start this week, all signs point to them having the opportunity to register good numbers. Make sure to have them active. Johnny Cueto Jake Peavy Tommy Hanson Dan Haren C.J. Wilson Jarrod Parker
Wait til Next Week Clayton Richard Jordan Zimmerman
