SP Jose Quintana, Chicago White Sox Quintana has been solid in his brief time as a starter in Chicago. He’s allowed just six earned runs in over 43 innings and has very good control. He’s gone eight innings in each of his last two starts and didn’t allow a run in either game. His strikeout rate is average at best, but he doesn’t walk many batters. The White Sox have had a problem supplying Quintana with run support, but I’d still take a look at him because he’s available in almost 70 percent of leagues. OF Dexter Fowler, Colorado Fowler has done everything you could hope for out of a leadoff hitter, and yet he’s only owned in 63 percent of fantasy leagues. He’s got a solid .292 average, has scored 42 runs and swiped seven bases. The surprising stat that is an absolute bonus is the power numbers this year. Fowler has smashed 10 home runs already to go with 35 RBI. He has four straight multi-hit games and I don’t see him slowing down. Get this man immediately. SP Jarrod Parker, Oakland The rookie has been dominating as of late, so check the wire for him if you need some starting pitching. Parker is 2-0 in his last three starts, allowing a total of just two earned runs. In that 20-inning span he has given up just 10 hits and has 19 strikeouts. Throw out a June 9 start where he allowed six runs and he’s been terrific. Parker is available in just under half of the leagues out there, too, so there’s a good chance you could land him. OF Carl Crawford, Boston Crawford is in the middle of a rehab assignment, but the plan is to have him starting right after the All-Star break. He’s available in more than 30 percent of leagues, which is absurd. There’s no reason a talent like this should be available anywhere especially when he’s set to make his debut in a little more than a week. Crawford should provide his usual run and stolen base production in the second half, and I can’t see the batting average be below .300 like it was last season. Go get him. SP Jair Jurrjens, Atlanta Since coming off the Disabled List and missing more than two months, Jurrjens has had two very good starts for the Braves. He’s allowed three earned runs in 13.1 innings and is 1-0. His strikeout total is very low, but overall he has looked solid. I’d still wait a few starts before making a move, but definitely get him on your radar. |
