Through the Wire: Week 15

| More

SP Ben Sheets, Atlanta Braves

The oft injured pitcher made his season debut 12 days ago and has put together two dazzling starts thus far. Sheets is 2-0 and hasn’t allowed a run in either game. He’s posted 11 strikeouts to four walks and has gone six innings in each contest. It’s hard not to take a chance on him right now, but beware of his health down the stretch. That is the only thing that has ever stopped him in his career from being an elite pitcher.

OF Lorenzo Cain, Kansas City Royals

Cain had a miserable start to the season then landed on the DL. Since his return though, the young outfielder has been raking. He has his average up to .290 and has three homers and 11 RBI is his last ten games. Cain’s still available in over 40% of leagues if you need some outfielders.

SP Homer Bailey, Cincinnati Reds

Wow is Bailey getting no respect in the fantasy world or what? He’s only owned in about 56% of leagues, but has been one of the hottest pitchers in all of baseball since the beginning of July. In his five starts this month he is 4-0 and has allowed a total of six earned runs. Bailey has 34 strikeouts and hasn’t allowed more than two earned runs in any start. Take a shot on him.

SS Josh Rutledge, Colorado Rockies

Rutledge was called up after the All-Star break and has been on a tear. He’s hitting .356 and though his power numbers aren’t too impressive, he knows how to hit. He’s even more appealing since the shortstop position is so scarce this year so take a look at him. Rutledge has scored six runs and stole three bases in his 12 games so he’s been very serviceable.

SP Matt Harvey, New York Mets

Harvey just got called up and made his debut Thursday for the Mets. It’s safe to say that he didn’t disappoint at all. The rookie pitched 5.1 scoreless innings and had an amazing 11 strikeouts. He gave up three hits and three walks and got his pitch count over 100 early on so he was replaced in the sixth inning. Harvey has to be the top waiver at this point so try and get your hands on him.
